A Minor snag

A specific snag I have ran into, is that donation centers near me are no longer accepting certain items. I am not overly concerned with the idea of making money on the items I am parting with, but I was hoping to avoid having to make extended trips to the dump. Most of my things are still usable, but I am no longer looking to care for these items and have them clutter my home. I can only imagine part of this reason is the fact that many stores that would take these items are no longer able to sell them at their constant rates.

Before I throw everything into black trash bags and rent a truck to haul everything away, I would like to resist this option. I have been able to still remove small items here and there as I return lost items, or gift items to friends and family. In fact, one of the first items to go was a blender I gave to a friend. All this leads to being more considerate about where I bring my things. It takes more work on my part now that I know I can not simply show up at a local goodwill, and expect them to take everything in my load. Everything understandably is running at limited capacities and the notion that all this removal of clutter would happen in a month or two is all but gone.

As stated previously, I am in no hurry to run off into the great blue yonder just yet. And I will restate here that I am still set on decluttering my life, and removing items that bring little value. I just might have to hold onto things longer than I want to. But this is not like owning stocks, where there is a time when you want to sell, and a time when you should hold. Progress in even small amounts is still progress. If I have to get rid of items one by one, I will still end up with an empty house. There is likely truth that there will be certain items that might just be better off to be heaped into junk piles and shipped off to the dump, but for the majority of the items I am getting rid of; I do hope to find a way of donating, giving away, or if worth it selling. In some manner all these things will go. I might just have to do some more thinking on how to rid these items from my possession. I could even just put some things in a box outside with a free sign. It is a minor snag in the overall journey that I am on. I can say I have been curbing any desire to buy new stuff. Mainly because I now think if I do buy something it is likely going to have to be gotten rid of. Maybe this is a way that can help you think of things you buy as these are things that will eventually clutter your closets and bother you. Even if you bring a piece of memorabilia in from a morning walk, a rock or a walking stick. These items will eventually gain dust and need to be dusted. They will need to be cared for. A brief update, but continuing to make progress and making personal contacts at local donation sites. I still have places I can call out to, and hopefully if one site isn’t taking something another will happily accept it. Until then, I will continue sweeping out my closets and moving things to the door. An item at a time, or eventually in large bundles, everything will go and my life will be less cluttered.

Until the next time. Thank you for reading and being apart of this journey. All good things in good time.
